Looks like we’re rescheduled to roll at 8:00 pm Friday evening as the finale behind our 2nd favorite parade, Krewe D’Etat.  Since the start location is the same, we’re hoping to see that parade in its entirety.

Priscilla Truck Down! Priscilla Truck Down!

The 2010 rendition of Truckgate has started, and it’s a doozie!  We were supposed to have truck in hand yesterday, so the side panels could be built but did not.  When some of our krewe went to pick up trucks this morning, one of them would not go in reverse.  Transmission issues have left us with a single, 28-foot truck for 24 lovely Priscillas.

Plan 1 is to have a combination of Throwing Priscillas and Promenading Priscillas: squeeze a few more on the one truck and take turns with those walking the parade route.

Plan 2 involves using a truck and small trailer, but it won’t be big enough to haul many of us.  Maybe it becomes a bead/gas can trailer, so more girls can get on the truck.

2010 KRE Bling

We finally made it to New Olreans.  Our flight was delayed by 1.5 hours due to inclement weather.  We boarded 40 minutes late then sat on the tarmac at Hobby for 45 minutes, 30 minutes of which we were in a queue for the plane to be DE-ICED.  You read that right.  I’m not making this up!  We were next in line when the de-icing operation was called off as the “wintry weather” had moved on.  (We’ll just ignore the fact that these fronts hit the Houston area 12-24 hours before the New Orleans area this time of year.)

Looks like we’re loaded this year!  In addition to the popular gold medallion necklaces, we’ve got the clear, blinky one and matching blinky ring!  Scarves, cups, Frisbees, and koozies are sporting an Elvi-lution graphic that starts from an ape and culminates in the most refined form of Kingliness, a Rolling Elvi.  We’ve even got back scratchers and air fresheners?  We ordered extras of the first-ever, signature Priscilla throw, show here front and center:  a Priscilla compact with a mirror!

The blue-suede glitter shoes are all in protective plastic bags that we decorated with “Shoe Dat!”  Unfortunately, “someone” didn’t check to see which end was the top of the bag.  They all say “Dat Shoe,” according to Lauren.  Tom said “good idea, poor execution.”

We are flat ignoring the weather reports.  Just ignored 2 different ones on the local television stations as a matter of fact!  Lots left to do, and we have an early start tomorrow...

Heading to the Big (Fr)Easy

 We’re heading to the Big (Fr)Easy this afternoon.  This morning’s weather forecast for Thursday is mildly improved temperature-wise (yeah!) but not so on the precipitation side (boo dat!).  If it looks like it’s going to be too rainy, they could even postpone or, heaven forbid, cancel our parade.  Hoping for drier weather and side slats for our truck!

No parade position to give you as of this morning, but we will be on the river (ParadeCam) side of the truck (as opposed to the neutral ground side).  While we eagerly await the announcement of our parade position, I’ll go ahead and pass on some ways you can join us online:

WDSU has a parade tracker.  Based on experience, I can tell you that it’s about as reliable as gametrackers are.  There are even instructions on the page to have the info sent to your cell phone:

Don’t Rain (Or Sleet) on Our Parade!

I could just strangle the weatherman right now. This is not at all what we ordered.  Being wet is unpleasant.  Being cold is miserable. But does it get any worse than wet AND cold?!  In fact, it does!  Try wet and cold in a stretch-velour mini-dress!  

Judging by the look of that weather map for 4pm Thursday, there aren’t enough places on our bodies to apply BodiHeat patches!  Once the snickering and laughter died down at the office, a coworker was kind enough to offer some tips on staying warm/dry:  (1) wear a big garbage between under layers and costume.  (2) Line inside of costume with layers of newspaper which, according to my tipster, is a good insulator.  I am left wondering if said tipster has spent some time sleeping on a park bench!  At the very least, we’re adding another pant layer, fashion be damned!

On a less whiny note, I found the most fabulous video online of Who Dats doing their celebrating along Magazine St.  We just love this!  A victory dance New Orleans style!

NOLA, Save Some Party for Thursday!

Unless you’re living under a really impressive rock, you already know that WHO DAT Nation scored big last night.  The New Orleans Saints won the Super Beauxl!  Of course, leave it to New Orleans to squeeze not 1 but 2 extra parades out of the event, ‘cuz it’s not a party without a parade!  The first was during the frenzied run-up to the big game, a parade for Buddy D. (Diliberto), a longtime, local sportscaster who promised to parade in a dress if the the Saints ever made it to a Super Bowl.  Unfortunately, Buddy D. did not live to see the day, but the WHO DATS did a fine job of carrying on his spirit and making good on his promise:

Extra parade #2 for the victorious Saints is Tuesday at quittin’ time.  Predictions are that it will be Endymion-like HUGE.  We just hope NOLA has a little party left for our parade Thursday!  Saves some for the true kings of Mardi Gras.
